The anticipation for a new Ferrari is like waiting for the next Bond movie – you know it’s going to be classy and to-the-point with a dash of killing and sex intrigue.

Last month Ferrari unveiled its newest addition to the pedigree at the Geneva Motor Show. This amazing piece of work, dubbed the F12 Berlinetta, boasts an incredible 6.3 liter, V12 engine that churns out a monstrous 740 horsepower that will take the car to 60 mph in less than 3.1 seconds. Stay on the pedal a bit longer and you’ll be doing over 100 mph in just 5.3 seconds. This was enough to push ahead of the 599 GTO during a few laps around Fiorano after the debut.

Numbers aside, the new Ferrari is a stunner. Look closely and you’ll notice that the body has inherited much of the things we’ve loved about the older-generation Ferrari’s – the 458’s front lights, the subtle shape of the 599, the hood air intake reminiscent of the Superamerica, the back which has elements from the F430 and the Enzo, and the tapered body contours that bring us back to the Formula 1 race cars.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Interior

The interior is much like most Ferrari’s these days – a kind of hybrid between a spaceship and a fancy boat. At first it seems a bit overwhelming with at least 8 steering wheel buttons and a switch with options such as “race” on it; however, when you get inside, you get the feeling that the way you’re supposed to drive this car actually calls for employing such high-technology to maximize the pleasure you get while keeping you out of a ditch.

Despite the knobs, switches, and gauges, the interior appears very focused on what this car is meant to do. Rather than incorporating fancy GPS units and massage seats, the F12 provides only the essential amenities to make the ride comfortable while giving you the technology to simply drive fast. This is perhaps the best thing about Ferrari.

As we’ve seen lately with Apple’s new iPad, manufacturers often like to release one feature or new idea to the market at a time to build interest. The exciting thing about the F12 Berlinetta is that the car pays homage to the Ferrari’s of yesteryear, and perhaps even nostalgically hints towards a completely new generation Ferrari that may be on the horizon.

Already, Ferrari is preparing to develop an 800 hp or higher engine based off of the F12 block, which will be enthroned in the newest and perhaps the most powerful Ferrari ever built – a successor to the famous Enzo. More to come on that.

For now however, the F12 is once again a great feat of engineering and passion, molded with individuality and exclusivity for rich businessmen, Silicon Valley millionaires, and car enthusiasts alike.
