Buying a car is difficult, and finding the perfect car to suit the needs of your family can be a challenge. When thinking of your family’s next ride it’s important to consider a couple of things – first, the car needs to be economical. If you’re going to be driving your kids to school, yourself to your job, and going on the occasional roadtrip, it’s important to have something that saves gas. Secondly, your car needs to be loaded with all of the equipment you need; this may include a GPS system, satellite radio, a rear TV for the kids, etc. Most importantly of course, the car needs to be safe.

To help you out a little, we’ve taken a look at the current market offerings and have come up with 8 solid cars that are well-suited for the needs of your family.

1. Toyota Sienna Minivan (MSRP $25,060)

Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna has always been and continues to be a great option for those with an extra large family. The van boasts up to a 7 passenger capacity, with one extra seat available in the LE, XLE, and SE models.

Apart from space, this car has great options available such as a rear-seat DVD entertainment system and lounge seats that come with certain packages. Additionally, even the lowest trim models come with high-quality fabric upholstery and cabin accents, as well as triple zone air conditioning and full power accessories.

2. Honda Civic (MSRP $15,605)

Honda Civic

With today’s skyrocketing gas prices, a smaller and more economical car may be the best option. The 2012 Civic offers seating for 5, a new and improved entertainment system, and an excellent 39 MPG.

Honda also has a great reputation for reliability. Expect to pay less forĀ maintenanceĀ over the years as compared with other models.

3. Kia Sorento (MSRP $21,250)

Kia Sorento

Yes, it’s not that beautiful, and no, it will not do 0-60 in under 10 seconds. However, for the price and what comes with it, it’s not half bad. Even the base model comes with alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, and bluetooth connectivity.

This is quite good for a car in this class. Higher-priced trims can also be customized to include features such as rear parking sensors and back-up cameras.

4. Acura MDX (MSRP $42,930)

Acura MDX

If you’re searching for a compromise between sporty and family-oriented, the Acura MDX may be just the car for you. With an available 300-hp V6 and an astonishing 7 person capacity, this car can haul and then it can well, haul.

Although not a huge gas saver (16 city/21 hwy MPG), the Acura MDX is a versatile car and makes up for its lack of economy by putting energy to good use with great features. This car is definitely at the upper price range but has many upscale features that make the price a bit more bearable. In terms of entertainment, expect iPod inputs, satellite radio, and an eight-speaker sound system. On the safety front this car is excellent as well, incorporating features such as an accident warning system and a collision preparation system that applies appropriate braking and cinches up seat belts in the event of a collision.
